New Cables ordered

Just ordered new brake, clutch & throttle cables for the cb. Should be a fun little job replacing them and hopefully sort out the clutching issues. Also ordered new mirrors, as the old one would not stay in position.

Bike now running like it should (temporarily)

With the carbs cleaned, the bike now has plenty of power. Running around on the local roads acceleration is good, out on the highway I had her up to 75mph and she still had plenty left in her. Rode to work a few times and have taken some leisurely spins around the area.
I bought a parts bike for $90 to mainly get my hands on an engine to pull apart, the plus is it has the stock handle bars I wanted and what looks like the correct front fender for my model. I have taken most of it apart, cleaned the handle bars and swapped them out. The bike looks great with the stock bars replacing the high bars. The problem now is the clutch & front brake cables are to long and I can't get a proper adjustment to stay on the clutch. Now will be a good time for new cables.

In the meantime I have been in the process of shopping for a bike the will allow me to ride with confidence in the machine I'm on. This will allow me to get stuck into changing the cable and replacing the fork seals.

Found a great deal on a 2008 honda shadow spirit on craiglist, made sure to get the title and all paper work in order before any cash changed hands ( don't buy a bike unless the seller has the title in hand). She only had 960 miles on the clock and I still can't ind a scratch on her. A dream to ride, sits a lot lower than the cb,not as nimble though. I'm really enjoying riding a newer bike and it gives me a good reference as to hw the controls should feel on the CB.

The title situation on the CB: I called about not receiving a title yet and the was told it was being held pending a road worthy inspection as the bike is over 35 years old its is regarded as an antique vehicle and does not require yearly emission inspections but does have to be inspected like custom builds for road worthiness. Will give an update on this inspection when I get it done.

Rear tire on, carbs off

Tried some carb cleaner in the gas to hopefully open up the jets and improve the power. No joy. Time to rebuid the carbs. I removed the air filters, the covers pop off with a little effort. Removed the carbs and found a dirt digger nest around on of the overflow lines. Order the carb kits. While waiting for the kits to arrive I decided to get the ear tire changed. Thou her than the front but I got it on. Cleaned up the rim while I was at it, came up pretty well. Rear brake needs a little adjustment.

Sorted out the clutch cable

Just a slight adjustment on the cable at the casing and no more stalling at the stop signs. Took her out for a spin around the area, got up to 40mph and hit a hill and the power just died off. Changed the spark plugs and got up to 50 mph this time. Ran a compression test and got 150lbs on each cylinder (cold), pretty good. Need to get out for another run.

Out for a short ride

Got home from work today, beautiful weather, had to go for a ride. Went for a spin around some local neighborhoods. Bike cut out a couple of times when I came to a stop, thinking the clutch needs a little adjustment. Best part was the look on my wife's face when she passed me when I was pulling out onto the road.

Front tire on

Over the last couple of nights I got the front wheel off and replaced the front tire and tube, also added a rim protector. The bike now runs a lot smoother, still a little bit off vibration from the rear which I'm ready to change next.

Downloaded a PDF of the owners manual for the bike, which is great because they are hard to come by, it recommends 95octane fuel, premium is 93 so thats the best I can do. Put the gas in her this morning and took it for a spin around the neighborhood, just as I was getting back to the house the engine perked up nicely (nice new premium gas) so I took her for another lap. Running a lot better now and I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.

Next: Change the back tire
